Lampshades

Acrylic on Lampshade (2023-2025)

A collection of hand painted lampshades depicting scenes from around Margaret River, Western Australia. After finding a stained lampshade at a flea market, Emily became obsessed with using art to transform waste into treasured items. While living in Margaret River, she collected old lampshades to use as canvases for her work, sharing her love of the region through an unsuspecting set of functional art peices.

Gracetown Bay

The first of the collection. Nestled into the coast, 20 minutes from Margaret River, is Gracetown. The town’s main bay is a hub for locals and visitors alike, famous for it’s crystal clear waters and world-renowned surf. During the spring, whales pass by while following their annual migration routes and the coastal shrubbery erupts into a colourful bloom. This lampshade captures the beauty of the Gracetown bay throughout this transitionary season.

Wanders Through the Bush

Inspired by walks through Yelverton National Park during the lush winter months. Here, winters bring heavy rains, nourishing the land and breathing the bush to life with dense grasses and wildflowers. The lamp features native flora and fauna such as century-old grass trees and the Red Tailed Cockatoo; an endangered bird endemic to the area.

Storms Brew Swells

An ode to nature’s playground. Life in Margaret River is intricately tied to the natural environment, dictated by the seasons and daily weather patterns. Early mornings bring surfers to the sea, whereas windy afternoons inspire foilers to sail across the waters. This lampshade celebrates a town whose pulse beats to the rhythm of nature.
