About the Project:

Design proposal for a ski cabin located in Mývatn, Iceland. The Mývatn Refuge ski cabin acts as a landmark in the stark landscape of Iceland’s Mývatn region. The modern cabin’s bold form beckons to the those exploring the surrounding mountains, proposing a space of refuge to provide skiers with a location to warmup and rest. The project’s design intends to spark the curiosity of visitors from a distance and invites skiers to investigate its burrows. The cabin’s form and materiality takes inspiration from the region’s geological features whereas the plan looks to traditional Icelandic turf houses, borrowing their design language of a centralized spine with perpendicular programming.
